Secondary Machining FAQ
What secondary operations can you provide after casting?
The post-cast route can include trimming, sawing, shot blasting, CNC milling, turning, drilling, tapping, deburring and finishing. The operation sequence is confirmed against the casting condition and finished drawing.
Can you create datums and machine critical features from an as-cast part?
Datum creation and critical-feature machining can be planned from an as-cast component when stock and workholding are suitable. Share the casting drawing, as-cast condition and finished-feature requirements for review.
Can you combine trimming, CNC machining, drilling and tapping?
Trimming, CNC machining, drilling and tapping can be coordinated in one post-cast process plan. We review access, datums and inspection checkpoints before confirming the route.
What cast materials can you finish?
Aluminum, iron, steel, zinc, magnesium, bronze and brass castings can be reviewed for secondary operations. Material grade, casting condition and required finish determine the machining approach.
Can you provide CMM inspection reports?
CMM inspection reports can be included for the specified machined features under an agreed inspection plan. Provide datum references, tolerances and reporting requirements with the drawing.
What information is needed to quote post-cast machining?
Send the casting drawing or model, as-cast condition, material, quantity, machining stock and critical features. Include tolerance, surface finish and inspection requirements so the complete post-cast route can be reviewed.
Have a Cast Part Ready for Finishing?
Send the as-cast model or drawing with material, quantity, machining stock and critical features. We will review the secondary route and inspection plan before quoting.
